Nearly 180 died, more than 100 injured as 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan, Pakistan, North India

A massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude hits Afghanistan, has nearly killed 180 people, including 12 Afgani school girls who were crushed in a stampede as they were tried to flee their collapsing school.

The earthquake also shock North India with tremors that lasted almost a minute.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near Jurm in Northern Afghanistan, 250 kilometers away from capital Kabul and at the depth of 213.5 kilometers, the US Geographical Survey said.

This is just a few kilometers away from the site of a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck in October 2005, killing 75,000 people and displacing some 3.5 million more.

The earthquake struck around 2:40 PM sending ripples across states like Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, The National Capital Region, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan.

Hundreds rushed out if the shacking buildings and remained on the streets for some time, fearing aftershocks.

The Delhi metro service was halted during the earthquake although the airport continued operating. Metro service was resumed after some time  but the trains ran slow.

The police official in Kashmir said," Some buildings and bridges got damaged. There are no loss of life so far. Cell Phone network is down and we are using our wireless network to gather information."
