At Least 23 People Killed In Three Explosions In Brussels, Including Suicide Attack At Airport

Several explosions have hit Brussels airport and metro station causing atleast 13 deaths, Belgium media says.

Explosions tore through the departure hall of Brussels airport on Tuesday morning killing atleast 13 people and injuring 30 others and the other explosion at the metro station at the capital shortly afterwards, killing 10 people.These explosions were carried out by the suicide bombers, Belgium public broadcaster RTBF says.

The attacks came four days after Salah Abdeslam, the main fugitive in the Pasir attack on November 13, was seized in Brussels.

The Balgium government have confirmed the casualties at the airport but has not given any number. The cause of the blasts is unknown.

The terror level in Belgium has raised its highest level.

There were total of three explosions in Brussels - one at the subway station and the other two at the airport.

The Belga agency said the shots were fired and there were shouts in Arabic language, shortly befor the blasts at the airport.

Photos shared on social media showed smoke raising from the terminal building through shattered windows and the passengers were running down.

Belgian broadcasters VRT said in addition to the dead at the airport, atleast 35 people were severely injured.

A local journalist tweeted the photos of person lying covered with blood among smoke outside Maelbeek metro station.

Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel said on his tweet feed," We are following the situation minute by minute. Our priority concern is for the victims and those present at the airport."
