6 days after Siachen Avalanche, 1 soldier rescued from under 25 feet snow


                                     

An army jawan was miraculously found alive six days after being burried under 25 feet of snow following the avalanche on February 3 at Siachen glacier.

However there is no hope of other nine. While five bodies have been recovered remaining four have been located and efforts are being made to retrieve them.

Army Command Northern Commander Lt Gen. DS Hooda said ," Lance Naik Hanamanthappa has been found alive. He is critical but all efforts are being made to evacuate him to RR hospital this morning. We hope the miracle continues. Pray with us."

The army rescue parties were cutting through upto 30 feet to ice at multiple locations where the soldiers could be burried. "The probable locations are identified by using special equipments," said the spokesman.

On 3rd February , 10 soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer were hit by  an avalanche at the altitude of 19,600 feet.

The teams are working a round the clocks and observing all the precautions since the unstable ice and snow in the region could trigger fresh avalanche. Rescue efforts will  continue till all are soldiers are found," said the spokesman.

Heave equipments and radars have been pressed into service in addition to rescue dogs.
The army has already set up a camp at the location  "to coordinate all the efforts as well as to continued vigil in the sensitive area."
