A powerful suicide bomb hit police base in Kabul

A powerful suicide car bomb hit police base in central Kabul on Monday, leaving several bodies stew around the area, an official at the scene reported.

No group has taken the responsibility for the attack till now , which comes amid Taliban's unprecedented winter offensive despite a renewed push to restart formal peace talks.

"A suicide car in the vicinity of ta police base in Kabul city," Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish told AFP.

"There are some casualties."

An AFP photographer saw at least 10 bodies around the base but it was not immediately possible to determine the number of fatalities.

Ambulances rushed off to the scene, which was cordoned off by the authorities.

The attack has come just ahead of the third round of four-country "roadmap talk" trying to lay the groundwork for direct dialogue between Kabul and the Islamist Group.

Deligates from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States are set to convene in Islamabad n February 6, in a bid to seek a negotiated end to a 14-year Taliban insurgency.

The Taliban has stepped up attacks on government and foreign targets in Afghanistan, this winters when fighting usually abates underscoring a worsening situation.
