India squad announced for World Cup T-20

                                       

Young all rounder Pawan Negi was a surprise pickup by the selectors for the World T-20 and Asia Cup but the selectors also reposed faith on the vetarian such as Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh in the 15-members squad for both the events.

Other young players such as Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, who impressed in the recent series against Australia, also found a place in the squad announced by the BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur after a meeting of the selection committee here today.

"Thiis is the best combination of the 15 we can think of," said BCCI Chairman Sandeep Patil in the press conference after the meeting.

Interestingly the pace duo of Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar kumar were ignored.

Also Manesh Pandey who featured the t20 series against Australia was also left out of the team captained by MS Dhoni.

The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6 followed the World t20 fron March 8 to April 3 in India.

The 23years old Pawan Negi who bowls leg spin and is a decent batsman was rewarded for his consistent performance in the domestic cricket. Negi's inclusion in the World t20 was obvious after he was selected in the three match t20 series against Australia.

Ajikya Rahane also found a place in the squad ahead of Manish Pandey, who scored a match winning century against Australia in the last ODI.

Manesh Pandey played exceptionally well in Australia. His name was also discussed in the meeting, said Mr Patil said.

"When selectors pick a team, we always give importance to domestic performance. It is not only that we are looking for the seniors, we have looked at the fitness, performance and records of the domestic players as well.

Harbhajan Singh has been the part of this team. The selectors, the team management and the captain have faith in Harbhajan, his records , his contributions he has made to the team, he explained.

The injury prone Shami has also been added to the squad

"Shami has 30 days before the World t20. We have good time in hand to take a call on Shami. He has been one of our best bowlers. For now I can only say that, he has recovered and started bowling," he said
