Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly backed Dhoni, said to give him respect and time

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Monday backed the Indian ODI captain MS Dhoni and demanded respect for him by saying that he has astonishing one-day record as skipper and need to be given all the time in the world to take the decision.

After the defeat in the second ODI against Bangladesh, Dhoni last night said that he can step away from the captaincy if it brings back good days to the Indian Cricket.

Ganguly said that one must not take it seriously, it's only the result of his frustration.

"He has said this in the heat of the moment and it's not right. He was upset after the defeat. Leave it there. Everybody has to sit together and decide. Don't put MS Dhoni down, he has a terrific record in the ODI's. Give respect to him," Ganguly said.

When asked if he thinks that Dhoni should continue as captain of India at least till t20 World Cup in 2016, Ganguly said, "it's not an individual decision. Let this series be finished. Such decisions can't be taken overnight."

"Whoever takes the decision, has to take the long term aspect in mind. There is BCCI President, Secretary and other official bearers," he further added.
