PM Modi launches 3 schemes for development of smart cities, towns on Thursday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveils 3 smart city schemes for the development of cities and towns.

Modi said, "Government should have looked urbanization as an opportunity to drivd growth. India's population is aspiring better standards of living and quality of life and this push is the first step in that direction."

Stressing to India's plan about smart cities he said, "The decision to make smart cities will be taken not by the government but by the people of the city and the local administration.

Modi launched three schemes- Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), 100 Smart cities and Housing for all, which will entail an investment of about Rs. 3 lakh crore in thd next fivd years.

The Smart City and AMRUT project will draw Rs. 48,000 crore and Rs. 50,000 crore respectively in central gaint over five years.

PM Nodi also launched the logo and the tag line of the housing mission, which has his personal touch in the finalization of the design.

Modi said the they will follow bottom up approach rather that top down approach to select the smart cities, where the decision would br made by the citizens and municipalities concerned.

The Smart City project will seek to enhance the quality of life in 100 selected cities with 24 hours of power and water supply, world class transportation system, better education, e-governance and environment friendly atmosphere among each other.

AMRUT seeks to ensure basic infrastructure  for 500 cities with the population of over one lakh.
