More than 500 injured in explosion at Tiwan water park

More than 500 people are injured in which almost 200 people are seriously injured as a ball of fire ripped through the crowd in the water park outside Tiwans capital Taipel, according to the reports.

The fire was sparked when colored theatrical powder thrown from the stage in front of 1000 people, the local media said.

The local media reports said that the witnesses as saying the fire at the Formosa Water Park spread quickly when the powder was blown in the air.

The video footage on Apple Daily newspaper website shows that music played and the cloud of the powder being sprayed out suddenly turned into an inferno that tore through people.

People were shown running for their lives, screaming for help as they were overtaken by flames.Many of the people were only dressed in swimwear and covered in the colored powder.

Over 1000 people have been at the Central Play Asia event at the Formosa Fun Coast water park, the officials said.

Tiwan's Primer Mao Chih-kuo announced a ban on parties that use flammable colored powder.

A total of 516 people are reported to be injured according to the reports as of about 11 a.m Sunday.

Several wounded are being treated in intensive care units in 35 different hospitals.
