Wawrinka defeated Djokovic to win his maiden French Open title

Stanislas Wawrinka won his maiden French Open title by defeating worlds no1 seeded Novak Djokovic by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday.

This is the second major title for Wawrinka after winning the Australian Open in 2014.

After Djokovic seemed to be bouncing back into the game by racing a 3-0 lead in the fourth set, but Wawrinka reeled off in six of the last seven games.

Wawrinka has now put stop to Djokovic's 28 matches winning streak. This is the third time in four years that Djokovic has lost in the finals in the clay court tournament,  the Only tournament that he has never won in his career.

Djokovic was playing his 16th Grand Slam while Wawrinka was playing in his 2nd Grand Slam.

Wawrinka who was appearing in the 11th French Open finals, equalizing Federer and Andre Agassi for most attempts before winning the finals.Aldo this was 11th French Open final for Djokovic but he is not been able to clinch the trophy.

I"t is really hard to believe but it has finally happened," said Wawrinka after winning the finals.

It was the match of my life. But bravo to  Novak, it is a great challenge, the biggest one to play him," he added.
